How does the Donation process work?

To all Gorilla Conservation Associates!

First and foremost thank you for supporting me and taking such a keen interest in my work. I, and my fellow Congo Rangers, are greatly appreciative of your generosity, without which it would be very difficult to protect the Mountain Gorillas and other wildlife in Virunga National Park.

WildlifeDirect has asked me to post this page, just so that you are all clear on the donation process and how it works.

As you know, it costs $244 per month to support me – and this includes everything. Here are the details:

Salary Supplement - $87
Accommodation - $15 (this is for me and my family in Mutsora)
Patrol Rations - $33 (this is for 22 days that I am on patrol per month)
Basic Equipment & Uniform - $37 (this includes boots, tent & backpack)
Ranger Pension Scheme - $15
Medical Cover - $20
Transport - $37 (this is part of the cost of 3 dedicated vehicles for us)
Total - $244

Now there are two ways you can do this:
1. You can either channel the money through the key Associate via a direct debit, and she will set up a Paypal account that will in turn make the recurring monthly payments to WildlifeDirect.
2. Or you can set up a Paypal account yourself and the recurring monthly payment for the amount of your choice.

The difference between 1 and 2 is the following: If you make the payment to WildlifeDirect directly through your own Paypal account (ie option 2), then you will receive a donation certificate from WildlifeDirect that you can use to claim back taxes on your donation. This is because ACF, Inc (the charity that runs the WildlifeDirect program) is a US registered charity, and your donation can be deducted from your tax bill.

If you choose option 1 you will not be eligible for a donation certificate as this goes through another person.

Either way is great, and WildlifeDirect will be tracking the monthly amounts being given to support my work. I will in turn post this donation information on my blog and let you know when the $244 total has been reached.

If you want to make an additional donation, please go to either wildlifedirect.org/gorillaprotection or wildlifedirect.org/congo-rangers and click on the Donate button. There you can make an open donation or donate toward specific items that we need.

Thank you again ALL OF YOU ASSOCIATES!

My very best…
