I am sorry this is not a happy post, but I would like to write today to honor Ranger Gasusa who died on the 11th of October, during an unfortunate car accident.

The picture below shows him some time just before the accident. He participated on an intelligence work carried out to stop a trafficking ring in the Mikeno Sector.

Thank you all for your constant support to the Congo Rangers - some 120 whom have died in the last 10 years in the line of service.

Thank you to Ranger Gasusa and to all the rangers who went before for their dedication and brave service. Thank you Elie for sharing. Thank you to all the rangers who continue risking their lives for the protection of the magnificent mountain gorilla.

Yes, it is a very sad post. Very brave men you have to risk their lives for the Mountain Gorilla and the other animals of Virunga. I am very proud to be able to read about their efforts and know about their efforts, even help with their efforts. Thank you to all the brave Rangers. Thank You. Lisa

There are no words to describe how deeply grateful I am for all the hard and dangerous work you and your men do, in order to keep the gorillas safe. Thank you!

Thank you, Elie, for this tribute. I don’t know how you rangers remain so dedicated after losing so many colleagues and in the face of so much political instability, but I’m very glad you are so dedicated. There are not many people in the world like all of you and Ranger Gasusa.
