Lubiriha is our patrol post north of Ishango, very close to the border with Uganda. Patrols have been reinforced in the area during the last two months.
Villagers have been moving into the park at fast speed, building houses, breeding animals and cultivating all sorts of crops. During many of our patrols, several warnings have been given to the local villagers to move their belongings from inside the park.
These pictures are from last week when Troop I of the Advance Force returned to Mutsora after burning their houses.
We managed to catch the chief of the village who gave away fake certificates of land property to the villagers. He is now in captivity in Mutsora.

It’s apparant that harsh measures must be taken to protect this beautiful park. Thank you for your hard work. I know it must be very difficult at times, especially with people coming into the park and setting up homes that you then have to take down. Stay strong and keep up the good work. Lisa

Ceep up the good work! Once peace is restored in Eastern DRC, Virunga will again become a tourist destination. Your work is not only for the park, but for the future of the Kivu`s. I run a security firm in Uganda and migth be able to give your men some support. Regards Mike Post a comment
